Website Theme Change

On October 9, 2025 I changed this site's theme to what I feel is a much better design than previous themes. Some pages will not be affected by this design change, but other pages that I changed and new pages I added in the last several days need to have some of their photos re-sized so they will display properly with the new theme design. Thank you for your patience while I make these changes over the next several days. -- Ray Merriam

Douglas SBD Dauntless Target Tug

Douglas SBD Dauntless coded Y15 that appears being used to tow targets for aerial gunnery practice. Note a thin line extending from beneath the rudder, although that seems like an odd place to attach a tow line; uncertain what the device is beneath the wing. The USAAF A-24 version of the SBD was used as a target tug, but this aircraft appears to be in the standard US Navy three-tone scheme and retains the standard USN hard tail wheel, while the Army version used a pneumatic-tired tail wheel, and it also does not have a tail hook, which was removed on the Army version.
